Why is blood so important?

    • Donating blood does not cause any weakness, fatigue or discomfort.

    • 350 ml for whole blood; it is 1/12thof the total amount of blood in our body.
    • 450 ml for components (platelets, packed red cells, plasma)
    • Plasma replenished is 24 hours only
    • Cells replenished is 8-12 weeks.
    • Time taken for blood donation 4-5 min.
    • After donation : 15 – 20 min.

    • We can have normal diet before and after donation.
    • You can’t get AIDS or any other disease by donating blood.
    • Equipment used to collect blood is sterile, disposable and safe.
    • It is used only once as the built in tubing and needle are destroyed after each donation.
    • Under this scheme a voluntary blood donor and his immediate family member are entitled to get blood which they may required within one year of donation.

    There are four blood groups

    • A Negative
    • B Positive
    • B Negative
    • O Positive
    • O Negative
    • AB Positive
    • AB Negative

    • 18-60 yrs.

    Any healthy person (male/female) having normal blood pressure, temperature & pulse

    • Age should be between 18-60 years
    • Weight should be >=45 kg
    • Hemoglobin >= 12.5 g%

    3 months

    24 hours for the volume & 1 week for the cells

    • Blood donation does not make one weak or reduce his/her working capacity
    • Blood donation never leads to HIV, AIDS and Hepatitis
    • Married persons can donate blood
    • Female sex is not a barrier for blood donation
    • Donated blood is not sold by the blood bank
    • Blood donation is not painful
    • Blood donation never leads to death
    • If you are not a blood donor so far, please be a blood donor.
    • Donate blood at least once a year.
    • Motivate your family and friends to donate  blood.

    • Maintain regular contact with blood bank.
